Beckett: A Birthday and a Win
Rodrigo Lopez is pitching? Against Beckett? On his birthday? You should be able to guess who won.Miguel Tejada went and hit a homerun in the first. But Wily Mo took care of business and hit a 2-run homerun the next inning. Then he hit a 2-RBI single with bases loaded. Mr. Pena, I am deeply sorry that I ever doubted you. It was just the shock of losing Arroyo. Your homeruns and RBIs make the loss of Bronson a little easier to deal with.
Mike Lowell hit a stand-up triple in the 5th to bring home Nixon and Varitek. That Lowell, he's batting .328 with about 58 doubles. After 8 runs, Lopez finally left the game.
Josh Beckett was the anti-Lopez, as he pitched a fantastic game. He gave up the homerun, then a single, then nothing.
Varitek and Lowell hit back-to-back homeruns to put the final score at 11-1. Baltimore had no chance.
New York lost. Red Sox up by one!
