Homeruns Galore
So many homeruns last night! Mike Lowell started it off with a 2-run shot in the 2nd. Jason Varitek followed that up with one of his own, then David Ortiz hit a 2-run homer to score Clement. Scored all of the runs on homeruns. Except Philadelphia, they had to get some of their runs with a double.Notice that Clement was on when Ortiz hit his HR. I couldn't watch the game because it wasn't on TV, but I know he got a hit that went to the third baseman, who overthrew the ball. ''I used Trot's batting gloves and Dustan [Mohr's] bat," Clement said. ''Last year, I tried a different mixture. I used [Mark] Bellhorn's bat and I don't remember whose gloves, but it didn't work out."
Papelbon came in to save the game, and got his 15th save. Clement won another one (4-3); he gave up 3 runs on 5 hits. Foulke, Timlin, and Papelbon each gave up zero runs.
And the Yankees lost a close one to the Mets. The Mets scored in the bottom of the 9th to break a 6-6 tie. Boston is on top of the AL East by 1.5 games over both NY and Toronto. Good deal.
