Finally, A Good One
Crisp singled, Ortiz singled, Manny RBI-singled, Nixon was walked (from an 0-2 count), Varitek GIDP. But we did get a run in the first, so it was off to a good start. But then Damon had to go and hit a homerun. Wasn't he like 1-for-15 during the first few NY/Boston games? I wish he would do that again. A-Rod tried to make me feel better by striking out, and I really did enjoy watching that.
Damon hit a 3rd inning double, then got doubled off when Melky Cabrera hit one to Crisp and JD didn't tag. Nice one.
The Yankees had two more solo homeruns, and then came the goodness.
Varitek stopped playing meh-ish and hit a 3-run homerun, and before that he RBI-singled. The best part about that HR was Manny was intentionally walked before that. Then Coco Crisp hit a 2-RBI single. Even the Gonz got in on the RBI action, hitting a double a score a run. Youkilis SFed before he got hit in the elbow. Actually, Lowell got hit tonight, too. What's up with that?
Schilling pitched 8 beautiful innings and Papelbon came in to pitch the 9th. Schilling only threw 96 pitches, 62 of which were strikes. He is now 9-2, which ties him for the best record in the majors (with Glavine of the Mets).Bronson Arroyo won last night too, and his record is almost as great as Schill's at 8-2.
Wakefield has a sore back, but will still pitch tonight. And they're taking on Texas tonight, and since Wake has a pretty terrible record against the Rangers, I don't know if this is the best idea. Apparently, Craig Hansen is ready to back him up if necessary, so we will see.
