Wakefield Did His Job and He Did it Well

Trot Nixon hit a 3-run homerun in the first inning, and went 4-for-4. Mike Lowell hit a sac fly in the 8th to put the Sox on top 4-3, after - get this - a Papelbon blown save. Is the apocalypse coming? Papelbon still won the game, but he let it get to a tie in the 8th. Too bad for Wakefield, because he pitched 7 innings and only gave up 2 runs; he would have gotten the win. Good to see Nixon gave him some run support right away, too.

Papelbon got his 3 outs in the 9th on strikeouts. Where would we be without him?

Jon Lester is making his debut this afternoon for the first game of a doubleheader. He is highly touted, so hopefully he'll make as good an impression as Pauley did.
