Mirabelli Comes Through Big

Wakefield made his delayed start last night, and though the first inning went well, the second was pretty scary. He loaded the bases and walked in a run. Then a hit went by Lowell for 2 more runs.

KC scored again in the 6th, and it wasn't looking too good, being down 4-0 and all. But then in the 7th, Crisp RBI-singled, and Doug Mirabelli hit a 3-run homerun! Mirabelli! It was only his 3rd HR of the year, but it sure did come at a key time. And right before he hit the HR he started walking to 1st because he thought he was walked. You can bet the Royals would have rather given up the walk than the HR!

The Gonz had a web gem due to this flip to second to get that Royal out:

Willie Harris (PRed for Loretta) scored on a SF by Manny in the 8th. And that was all they needed to win it, 5-4.

It took 5 pitchers to get the job done. Wakefield lasted 4, Delcarmen, Hansen, Timlin, and Papelbon helped out. Timlin got the win, pitching much better than he had been lately. And Papelbon came in to pitch the 9th, and it was easy (as usual).

But those Yanks won too, so we're still only up by .5.

In a shocking and surprising move, David Ortiz stole second base. Manny and Youkilis were jumping up and down cheering for him. It was so cute!

Get it? He stole second base!!
