No More of That, Please

7-7 tie. Bottom of the 8th. Timlin's got 2 outs. And then?

Home run. But that's not the worst part. It was in INSIDE-THE-PARK home run. Coco Crisp tried to catch the ball and was about 5 feet off (“It’s not a good feeling when the ball’s not where you expect it to be,” Crisp said. “Not a good feeling at all.”), then Manny went to get it and missed it completely. He's pointing to the ball so Coco could get it, and by the time it got to Lowell the Mariner was going home. Kill me now.

But then!

Jason Varitek hit a solo HR in the 9th!

But then.

Francona kept Timlin in the game (despite my many, many protests) and he proceeded to give up another HR. So the Red Sox had a perfect opportunity to move 3.5 games ahead again, and lost it when Papelbon didn't come in.

Ortiz' RBI-double and single, Varitek's RBI-double and HR, Loretta's RBI-single, Manny's SF...all for nothing. All because no one knows when to take pitchers out. If I can do it, someone in the Boston organization should be able to! What a day.

Alas, I seem to have forgotten the most amusing play of the day. Manny tried to stop a ball by sliding his leg out in front of it. The play didn't work, and actually kicked the ball away from Crisp. Rough day.
