Ortiz Hits #31

After 3 losses in a row, the Sox have come storming back to win their last 3 games. Last night, it was a 7-2 demolishing, this afternoon was a 9-6 victory.

Ortiz hit his 31st HR of the year today, and he is the only player in Red Sox history to hit 30 home runs before the All-Star break. Pretty spectacular, that man is.

Jon Lester pitched last night, and he did a very nice job. As in, goodbye-David-Wells-we-won't-be-needing-your-services-anymore. I don't want to risk Wells coming and and being horrible when we have a perfectly good arm in Lester. He only allowed 2 runs over 6 innings. Today, Beckett gave up 5 runs in the same number of innings; good thing Boston had 6 by the same time.

Tomorrow's game will be the last before the All-Star break, and also the last before David Ortiz wins the Home Run Derby. "I just swing hard in case I hit it -- that's it," said Ortiz.

And! One of my former favorite Red Sox players, Mark Bellhorn (the others being Hillenbrand and Arroyo, of course), hit a 2-run homerun in the Padres' win. Oh Mark Bellhorn, I miss you and your hair.
