Time for a Change
The last sentence of an article on last night's game reads as follows:"Relievers Javier Lopez and Julian Tavarez combined to allow eight runs."
Not surprising in the least. What is surprising, however, is Josh Beckett giving up 7 runs over 4 1/3 innings. Also surprising? Seanez pitching a whole inning with no hits and no runs. Pretty ironic that he pitches perfectly when the Sox are down 7-0, but can't hold a lead for his life.
Beckett has allowed 27 homeruns this year, a number that leads the Majors. Bad stat.Back to the bullpen. Lopez gave up 5 runs and Tavarez allowed 3, but not one of those 8 runs was earned. Boston had 2 errors tonight, one of which was credited to Tavarez. The other was the fault of the Gonz, his 4th of the year I believe.
But Coco Crisp did have another Web Gem! He made another diving catch in center that was good enough to earn #1.
And the Yankees won, which means they are closing in on Boston's lead; they're only back by 1.5 games. In non-game news, Wakefield's back is still a problem and it may cause him to miss his start on Sunday. Be prepared to see Kyle Snyder as the starter tomorrow if Wakefield's not feeling it.
