Another Injury

Doug Mirabelli got injured last night; he twisted his left ankle in the first inning as he was blocking home plate. Someone hates the Red Sox, seriously. I guess that was some impressive foresight on Theo Epstein's part acquiring Lopez, since both our regular catchers are injured. Good news, though: X-rays were negative.

The Red Sox do have a problem concerning position players, though. Yesterday, they had 3 on the bench - Javy Lopez (who of course had to be used), Mike Lowell (who is hobbling after fouling balls off his feet), and Gabe Kapler. They're probably going to bring up another catcher, but it doesn't look like Mirabelli is going on the DL.

From the game:
The bases were loaded with one out for the Devil Rays in the 6th, but Curt Schilling was not going to give up a grand slam - he got 2 strikeouts in a row.

The first 3 runs of the game were all solo home runs: Damon Hollins, Carl Crawford, David Ortiz. 38 HRs from Big Papi. Youkilis hit a SF to score Loretta in the 6th.

8th inning. ANOTHER home run from Ortiz. I don't think he's human anymore.

Thanks in part to Ortiz' 2 blasts, it was 3-2 going into the 9th. And you know with Papelbon pitching, it was 3-2 at the end. With all the injuries going on, Papelbon better stay healthy -- or we are in serious trouble.

Schilling is 14-4 now, he had a really good outing. After the 3rd inning, Boston pitchers did not allow any runs. And just because it's incredible, Papelbon's ERA is 0.49.

QotD:
David Ortiz: "I don't care about the shift anymore."
