Manny Comes Through

I am getting really sick of the part of my life where I spend 7+ hours a day studying for the MCAT and I miss the day games. And yesterday's game was a GREAT one (or so I heard).

Jason Johnson did not have a very good game. He gave up 7 earned runs over 5.1 innings, which is not acceptable.

What I'm about to say may shock you, so be prepared. The bullpen - our bullpen - had 4.2 SCORELESS innings. Hansen and Timlin didn't even allow a hit! Of course, you have to factor in that Tavarez did let 2 runs score, as he inherited 3 runners from Johnson. I think I'm going to ignore that, and just focus on that bullpen/scoreless thing.

Home runs: Pena, Crisp, Mirabelli! It was 7-3 in the 6th when Wily Mo tripled to get Manny and Lowell home, and Mirabelli pulled out his big bat again and tied the game on a 2-run shot. He had 3 RBI yesterday that all came with 2 outs; he's making the no-Varitek situation a little easier.

Wily Mo was a single away from hitting for the cycle. I think he may do a lot of that (hitting for the cycle, that is) in the future.

In the 10th inning, Loretta and Ortiz walked, and Manny needed a hit to continue his hitting streak. In perfect form, he got himself a game-winning single (wasn't an RBI because of an error on the play) and the Sox saved themselves from going back 3 games again. And Manny had another outfield assist, showing he is awesome with more than just his offense.
