The Weekend of Mike Lowell

Mike Lowell hit a grand slam in the 1st inning, and by the second inning it was tied at 4! Come on Lester, pitch the way you were pitching when you first got here.

Bases were loaded again for us in the 4th with no outs, and Kapler was up. A run scored but Kapler was out at first, then Lowell scored on a wild pitch, Crisp RBI-singled, and by the end of the inning it was 7-4.

Kyle Snyder came in in the 6th and Kevin Millar hit a HR. Now, I love Millar, but it's not a good sign when you give up a home run to your first batter and it's Millar. He then got an out and gave up ANOTHER home run to Brian Roberts! Come on Snyder, that's ridiculous.

Delcarmen pitched a scoreless 7th and then in our half of the 7th, it looked for a minute like Youkilis got hit by a pitch, but he didn't get his base. Good thing, because he hit a 3-run shot a few pitches later to put the Sox up 10-6.

Manny D. started walking people in the 8th, so Craig Hansen came in to bail him out. He let a run score but Doug Mirabelli made up for it with yet another home run. He's been pretty awesome lately, huh?

Hansen let 2 men on in the 9th before Papelbon came in. And he didn't get through the inning as easily as we like. He walked a man to load the bases, Millar reached on a Cora error (and a run scored; the Gonz would not have allowed that), then he walked in a run. But he did get out of it with the lead intact, and Boston won this one 11-9. Get sweeped, then sweep. The Sox have won 16 out of 17 games against Baltimore. And yes, I was definitely at that one game they lost.

Manny's hitting streak ended at 27 games yesterday. Mike Lowell had a busy 3 days, with getting hit in the head, running into the stands to make that catch, and stealing a base on Friday, then hitting a grand slam and making the throw to get the game-ending out yesterday.

Sad news on the Trot Nixon front: "I bet by the time we go on the road, I bet he'll be at least close to playing ... maybe not for us," Francona said. What does that mean? He'll be in Pawtucket? Another team? Trade deadline, come on! I want Trot to stay.

Yankees lost! We're only one game out of first place now.
