Matsuzaka and A-Rod

Hopefully, the two men in the title won't both be on the same team next year.

Daisuke Matsuzaka, the Japanese star, is available to the highest bidder. His current team, the Seibu Lions, are selling him via the posting system, which basically means whoever makes the highest bid gets him. The Red Sox, Mets, Yankees, and Rangers are expected to be among the bidders, but the Mariners will not be bidding. Bad news comes with this news -- Scott Boras will be Matsuzaka's agent, and Scott Boras seems to steer good players away from Boston.

In other news, the Yankees take on the role of loser boyfriend in saying they don't want to break up with A-Rod, they want him to break up with them. So if A-Rod is going to be traded, he has to make the first move, or else he's there to stay. If I was in the NYY FO, I'd probably keep him around for one more year to see if he improved; if he didn't, I'd have to try to trade him.
