Still reeling over the Damon news. Dan Shaughnessy's article is pretty spot-on. He mentions the fact that the Sox are now lacking a shortstop, a first baseman, a center fielder, and Theo. I believe I said a while back that losing Theo and Damon would make me cry forever, and I have to say that is still a possibility. Looks like this season is going to be a trainwreck. Seems like the front office is doing everything in their power to undo the goodness that Theo created, and they're starting by dismantling a World Series-winning team. Seeing Johnny in pinstripes might be the worst sight I will ever see. Can't the Yankees find their own people? Must they take all of ours?
And to all the fans who are saying this is for the best because Johnny will fall apart in 2 years -- shut up. It's still a million times better to have him than not to have him. I do not see the Yankees losing, like, EVER this season. Their lineup is Unbelievably good -- Damon, Jeter, Rodriguez, Sheffield, Giambi, Matsui (who I maintain is the most underrated player in all of baseball), Cano. I really hate all of those guys (except Damon, of course). As much as I want to hate him, I just can't. He was SO good for us, and I can't forget all the great things he did for the Red Sox. Of course, I still believe he is a traitor and a sell-out, just because he said he would never be a Yankee and it wasn't about the money. I'm sorry, but when you could make $40 million to stay with a team in a city that worships you, or get $12 million more to go to that team's enemy, you fucking stay. What the hell difference will $12 million more make when you are already set to make $40 million? $40 million alone is enough to last 5 people a lifetime. Greedy bastard. He has a pretty high opinion of himself too, calling himself the best leadoff hitter in the game. Man, it really makes me mad. So much for loyalty! When the almighty dollar beckons you, I guess you go to it. Whatever, Johnny, I hope you and your wife are happy with this stupid decision. I have a hunch the wife had a lot to do with it, didn't she have some fashion segment on NESN? I never got NESN because I went to school in NY, but something tells me that woman is all about the glitzy social scene, and NYC fits the bill.
And by the way, I have loved the New York Knicks forever and their season is just as depressing as this Damon crap.
