The time came yesterday to replace my 2005 Red Sox calendar with my 2006 Red Sox calendar. I decided to see just how many players from the '05 calendar were still members of the Sox, and this is what I found:
January - Nomar? Okay, bad example. 0 for 1.
February - Foulke. Although he has been noticeably absent, he's still on the team. 1 for 2.
March - Wakefield. You know what I remember the most about Tim? How he pitched the game I went to in Baltimore and lost. Oh, well. 2 for 3.
April - Billy Mueller. Man, I love him. I am going to be watching so many LAD games this season. 2 for 4.
May - Captain Tek. Can you imagine a team without him? 3 for 5.
June - Lowe. I think I will always remember the drunk guy in front of me at Fenway screaming D Blow. Ahh, memories. 3 for 6.
July - Trot Nixon. I know someone who knows him, and for that reason alone I like him. 4 for 7.
August - Johnny Traitor. No need to discuss. 4 for 8.
September - Schilling. 5 for 9.
October - Manny. I hope he gets past his issues or whatever and actually plays to win this season. Unless he gets traded, in which case I couldn't care less. 6 for 10.
November - David Ortiz. I know players come and go and all that, but if he never left, that'd be awesome. 7 for 11.
December - Gabe Kapler. Uhh...is he even on the team anymore? I'm going to say no. 7 for 12.
Okay, so 7 out of 12 members of the best team ever are still on the team now. Doesn't sound too bad, but it really is a lot worse than it seems.
Oh, and the best part? Mark Bellhorn made the '06 calendar. I don't care where he is, I will always love him too much for my own good. I still can't get over the fact that I finally spent the money to buy a Bellhorn jersey and then he went to the Yankees. It's a good thing I never bought a Damon jersey. I do have that Damon shirt, but whatever. As long as they don't trade Bronson, because that jersey cost more and I want to wear that forever.
