Take That Rays

I am sending both congratulations and gratitude to the Philadelphia Phillies tonight. Congratulations on your first World Series title since 1980, and thank you for beating my new least favorite team.

See how I can be both mature (by congratulating a non-Red Sox team) and childish (by taking pleasure in the Rays' pain).

Even if it's not Boston, it was still nice to see the Phillies so excited. I have nothing against them, and Cole Hamels is pretty hot, so I am cool with this. Not happy, but cool.

And now back to anatomy/embryo studying...

All Good Things....

I didn't want to have to write this post, but....I must.

The Rays won. As you know. Boston fought hard these last few games but couldn't pull it out in the end.

I am very depressed.

But, I guess we can't win every year. Now we just have to root for the Phillies. Because the Rays are now my least favorite team.

One comment: Why do all the Boston hitters suddenly decide to get hits when there are 2 outs? Why can we only get hits with 2 outs? That is not going to win games.

And one more thing: That was the same umpire as Game 2. He single-handedly lost the game for Boston. Okay, maybe it wasn't that dramatic but it IS true since we would have won in 6 if he hadn't cheated in Game 2.

Another year....

I CAN Believe My Eyes!

WOW! Was that not one of the best games you have ever watched? I feel really bad for everyone who went to bed when the Sox were down 7-0, only to have them come back to win in the bottom of the 9th!

INCREDIBLE.

THAT was the team we have watched and loved all year. Now I want to see them again for the next 2 games.

We did not even score until the 7th inning. 8 runs in 3 innings. You know the Rays are stunned. Yay!

All I seem to be able to say is Wow. That was SO awesome. Absolute joy right there. And the fact that everyone contributed...Pedroia, Ortiz, Crisp (WHAT an at bat!!), Drew (what a way to end it, for real), Papelbon, Masterson keeping us in the lead and getting that double play ball...what an amazing game.

I feel like I could run 20 miles after that game, I am so excited and pumped up. I really need to get some studying done, but all I can think about is how much I freaking ADORE this team!!

Cheat

a) That 3rd called strike on Kotsay towards the end--unbelievably bad call.

b) Mike Timlin threw what was clearly a strike and the umpire called it a ball. He went on to walk the guy.

c) That Rays hitter (cannot remember his name) DID NOT check his swing!

The last 2 innings were disgustingly called. That umpire should not have a job anymore.

Does this mean MLB wants the Rays to be "the team that could" and screw anyone who tries to get in their way?

Why bother to play if all that cheating is going to go on?

(And seriously, Mike Timlin, WHAT IS WRONG WITH YOU)

So Many Things to Touch On

I have a list in my head of so many things I want to say! Let's see if I remember them all (disclaimer: it's the 8th inning now and I clearly do not know the outcome of the game):

1) Dustin Pedroia, my love for this man knows no limits. Two home runs in a row, a walk, a single, and that is through the 8th. MVP, come on!!!

2) Jason Bay, how awesome are you? REALLY awesome. He's got 4 RBIs in this game alone, has hit a HR, and just generally seems to come through in the big moments. I cannot express how much I thank whoever got us this man (okay Theo).

3) My mind is filled with cell biology so I may be incorrect here, but remember back in the '04 ALCS when Johnny Damon could not get a hit, and then he hit the grand slam in Game 7? I feel like that is Jacoby Ellsbury right now. The poor kid is like 0-for-8 or some awful number, he is also the leadoff hitter, and he kind of looks like Damon (a very little, okay). I am waiting for him to do something huge like Damon of the Good Ol' Days. Waiting. Patiently. Unlike some people I know!

4) That's all for now. Except I hate the Rays. And where was 2003 Beckett tonight?!?? Yuck.

5) Oh, wait, one more thing. Can we NOT play Javier Lopez anymore?! PRETTY PLEASE. He threw one pitch, gave up a run, and was promptly taken out. Smart. But why was he in in the first place? Remember the Angels game??

As Expected!

As I expected, it was a very close game last night between the Sox and Rays. What was not expected was just how many times Matsuzaka scared the crap out of me! He got himself into a bunch of tight places and yet, as you know, he worked out of every one. He even had a no-hitter going throughout most of the game (which my mother jinxed!). Boston won the game 2-0 and that puts us up 1-0 in the ALCS.

If I could, for a brief moment, discuss the NLCS (I know, who cares). Philadelphia is up 2-0 over the Dodgers. This is good news and also bad news.
Good: Don't really want to see Manny do well. SORRY I am....bitter? That's not the right word but the very season he leaves Boston he cannot win the World Series!!
Bad: I want Joe Torre to do well now that he isn't with the Yankees. Not because I like him but because I want NYY to see the mistake they made (like they don't already, right!)

So I don't know about that one.

But the ALCS is going according to plan. They play again tonight, with Beckett going against Kazmir. Kazmir went 12-8 this season (3.49 ERA), which doesn't sound too great but then again, Beckett was 12-10 (4.03 ERA). So who knows. Be there and find out!!

I am Back For Now

My life has been all anatomy for the last week and now I am ready to write a post.

(Though, don't think for a minute I let a huge exam get in the way of watching the Red Sox!)

I am slightly disappointed that we let the Angels win a game (well, Javier Lopez let the Angels win a game). But that series is over, Boston won, of course, and now...

Now they have to play those damn Rays.

The ones who were supposed to freak out and lose.

They did not lose.

They have been a problem all season long.

Time to lose, Rays!!

Friday night. Matsuzaka is going. Be there or be square!

It's Getting Close to the End

We are running out of time to get first place back. Only 10 more games (oh my god the season is almost over) left to resume our rightful first place spot. And since the Rays took 2 out of 3, the Sox are down 2 games.

Boston series remaining: Toronto, Cleveland, NY Yankees.

Rays series remaining (keep in mind they have 12 games left): Minnesota, Baltimore, Detroit.

I don't really know who has the easier path, but I think it's them.

They're winning by one run now, but it's still early, and hopefully by the end of the night Boston will be 1.5 back and not 2.5.

All Tied Up

It is 13-5 in the top of the 8th. 6 different Red Sox batters have hit home runs (Ortiz, Lowell, Bay, Varitek, Youkilis, and Ellsbury).

They will not lose this game.

Not even me writing this post before the final out can screw up this one.

TIED FOR FIRST PLACE!!!!!

THE HELL?

OH MY GOD. Papelbon is going to lose the game for us. He just let TB score again to put them ahead by a run with only the bottom of the 9th left to score some Sox runs.

What is wrong with him lately?

So much for being in first place tonight.

How Bad Do You Have to Be...

Any more takers on the Time-to-Let-Wakefield-Go thing??

I understand that sometimes he is good, but he is very unpredictable/unreliable/not very good anymore. If he had allowed 0 runs instead of 7, we may have won that game. Because how many runs did they lose by? That's right, SEVEN.

Maybe this is just a sign that Ellsbury should ALWAYS play!!

At least this means Timmy won't pitch in the Rays series. Which is going to be so very important I can't even stand it.

TB of course lost yesterday. If we had better starting pitching, perhaps we would only be 1.5 games back instead of 2.5. Just sayin'.
